Ivy

This is my 12x18 acrylic painting, done in the style of art nouveau, while using silver leaf. It is comprised of three sketches of three of my classmates. I then went in and filled each person in with different patterns. I then filled in the black frame with a white, ivy like, pattern. I painted the pattern into the purple spaces connecting to the frame, attempting to give off the illusion that the ivy is growing into the painting. I had a lot of problems with the silver leaf. It didn't stick in some areas, so I went in and scratched away some of it in order to establish some kind of pattern. I wished that I had more time to work with the silver leaf. It didn't turn out the way I wanted to.

  1. Wow, I really like how this piece turned out Cannon! The frame that you put around the figure drawings is simply amazing and fits in with the rest of the piece. I also really like the design that you put on the faces, instead of keeping it all gold leaf, you put a design in there too which really adds to the piece.

  2. Interesting piece cannon. Is the bottom right of the painting supposed to be faded? Or is that just because of the flash? Its compelling how you used geometric patterns with geometric shapes. Good distinction between all of the characters.

  3. I like the yellow, red, and the orange blend in together; it makes me feel kinda warm inside. I like this piece. There is quit a few things i like actually, i guess i'll start at the top.
The border around the artwork is amazing, i like the way it ties the charatures together, the silver roots were a good idea. I think ther is good contrast between dark colors and lights colors, the dark doesn't eat the light or dominate it. It brings it out. I really like the way you used the gold leaf, the fact that the charactures do not have faces makes them look mysterious. This whole picture looks mysterious, dark and a little playful. Playful, because the porportions of the arms and legs look funny to me. Dark, because the dark red, black is so dark it adds to the mysteriousness. I admir your color choises of what is what color.
To be honest the only thing i don't like about thins, that you could have done better on is the patterns. I an not too fond of the rain drops on the characture on the far left. I do not think it matches. But other than that, you've made a great piece. :)

  5. When I look at it, my first reaction was this sorta dark feeling. I kinda felt like im in one of those dark forests walking down it. Then the color choice kinda reminded me of the planets. So my final feeling of it was this painting that remains me of the galaxy. Over all I say you did a great job and it was creative.
